O Ye Faithful, Love the Animals!

Preachers in some Malaysian mosques will urge worshippers to help stop the poaching of tigers, elephants and other endangered animals after similar sermons on turtle conservation were well received, an environmentalist said
Ah, isn't that something? To remind people, regardless of religion, the importance to love God's creations and that includes the animals and of course the environment. Let us not stop at tigers, elephants, or any other endangered animals.

Broaden the subject to commonly seen animals: the dogs/cats, as well as the environment. Apart from man-God relationship and practicing some religious routines, it'd be great if mosques, temples and churches do a little more for the aforementioned. After all, aren't we stewards of His creation?

So beloved ones, remember to turn off your lights on the 28th this month.

Calling Sadists and Gluttons...

This one goes out to despicable people mentioned in the title. Turn away from your dastardly deeds of torturing animals and sending them to the cooking pot just to satiate your disgusted appetite. Learn to appreciate nature and its creation. Learn to love not only your own kind. Wipe away that smirk on your face and open wide that eyes which gleam with malice.

Behold, the latest sensation on the net. Sam (above) and boyfriend (?) (below)

Courageous Canines

I cry for you courageous canines
Loving hands or merciless stares will accompany you
You may lie by the fireplace or curled up, wet from the dew
Some are well fed, some subsist on morsels from the trash can
Some run to play catch, others run from gun-toting men.

I cry for you courageous canines
For some enjoy a pat on the head
While others get a bullet to the head
Some jump, barking excitedly every other moment
Others whimper in painful torment

I cry for you courageous canines
Fortunate ones find their way into loving homes
Unlucky ones into cooking pots, separated flesh from bones
Idiotic rules imposed upon those willing to love you
To banish from the community, stupid requisites aimed at you

I cry for man's foolishness and insolence
Eradicating at will, strays and owned, with illogical justifications
Highly developed brain, yet too dim to understand your emotions
Bestowing upon you the title Man's Best Friend
But unwilling to share and part with an inch of borrowed land
How dare we likened the nadir of things to you then?
When some even bite the hands that feed them

I pray, lovely canines
Hoping that you'd find joy in this wretched world
Not to be thrown out with irresponsible caprice
To the strays, that you'd find fleeting acts of kindness
A bite of food, a pat; temporal warmth in a cold surrounding

It is nice brushing your head and rubbing your chest
To feed you and witness your gratitude - a wagging tail

Fishermen to be Fined - I Second That

If educating the masses on animal rights failed, then swift punishment should come. People just don't give a damn if a particular creature is endangered and they hunt them for food, for handbags and shoe, and some perhaps for a show.

Those guys, breadwinners they may be, who caught the whale shark ought to be fined just for not releasing the fish. These men are pro at deep sea fishing and I'm sure they'd know how much they've caught or in this case, how heavy.

Was it, it got stuck in the net so we have no choice but to bring it back to beach? Accidents yes but they'd do more than just hauling it to land. The kids would be like, "Wow, they caught a big fish. Wonder what's next!". There goes all the efforts to educate them on the importance of protecting and preserving wildlife. Rather than bickering on whether to use English or Bahasa Malaysia as the medium of instruction in school, think of how you'd make learning fun. My friends in Korea are saying how tough and competitive school is as well as the university entrance exam. Here, everything is so carefree. Time to get people who knows about Science to be part of the panel responsible for the subject's syllabi. Grr...

And this comes after a rubber tapper was detained with a sun bear in his possession - dead. What now? Virility again? Contact Pfizer please; or click here.

Well, these are my thoughts. I just feel that they'd just get off easily. Who cares about an endangered animal. Profit comes first and the end justifies the means, so they say.

The Chicken and the Egg

The latest absurdity by our self-professed future leaders reminded me of a little discussion over meal about the order in which the chicken and the egg first appear. A simple and quick agreement: The chicken comes first. God created the chicken.

It's a joke seeing how they'd lodge a police report (a popular trend after issuing SD lately) over a comparison made. Would I be detained and labelled a racist if I make a (proven) fact that nasi lemak, kuih nyonya, nasi kandar and the like are both oily and unhealthy?

Unbelievable what these eggheads could join and connect. Perhaps if the dish was likened to cat food or any creatures other than dogs, then it may not have been so serious eh? Poor dog. You're insulted, kicked, killed and shot at if you wander in the wrong places.

Now, they're talking about insulting an egg. So much for valuing life.

Lest you forget

Lest you forget that wild animals are being poached for their tusks, fur, eggs, horns, for longevity, for enchanced sexual libidos, and who knows what else.

Lest you forget that black is indeed black and not by any other name; and poaching (or illegal hunting, fishing, harvesting) should be outlawed and not only during the "closed season".

Lest you forget that humans are created beings (or evolved creature if you like) and having developed senses and thought doesn't entitle us the rights to dictate the life of all living creatures. What's the use of having the ability to think when it gives rise to selfishness, cruelty, or malicious intents? Has the world got better ?

Enjoy the ingenuity of our race. Lo and behold...

Animals Rights

Read an article on human rights and decided I should have some sort of animal rights declaration here. Many a times, we hear of and even witness the selfish nature of us humans thinking animals, great and small, to stay away from us and our property or else...

At best, these animals are our pets - declawed and vocal chords removed. Sadly, no matter the number of campaigns carried out or the books written on this issue, we are more superior (only in reasoning I may add).

Universal Declaration of Animal Rights
Preamble:
Considering that Life is one, all living beings having a common origin and having diversified in the course of the evolution of the species, - Considering that all living beings possess natural rights, and that any animal with a nervous system has specific rights,
Considering that the contempt for, and even the simple ignorance of, these natural rights, cause serious damage to Nature and lead men to commit crimes against animals,
Considering that the coexistence of species implies a recognition by the human species of the right of other animal species to live,
Considering that the respect of animals by humans is inseparable from the respect of men for each other,

It is hereby proclaimed that:
Article 1
All animals have equal rights to exist within the context of biological equilibrium. This equality of rights does not overshadow the diversity of species and of individuals.
Article 2
All animal life has the right to be respected.
Article 3
1°- Animals must not be subjected to bad treatments or to cruel acts.
2°- If it is necessary to kill an animal, it must be instantaneous, painless and cause no apprehension.
3°- A dead animal must be treated with decency.
Article 4
1°- Wild animals have the right to live and to reproduce in freedom in their own natural environment.
2°- The prolonged deprivation of the freedom of wild animals, hunting and fishing practised as a pastime, as well as any use of wild animals for reasons that are not vital, are contrary to this fundamental right.
Article 5
1°- Any animal which is dependent on man has the right to proper sustenance and care.
2°- It must under no circumstances be abandoned or killed unjustifiably.
3°- All forms of breeding and uses of the animal must respect the physiology and behaviour specific to the species.
4°- Exhibitions, shows and films involving animals must also respect their dignity and must not include any violence whatsoever.
Article 6
1°- Experiments on animals entailing physical or psychological suffering violate the rights of animals.
2°-Replacement methods must be developed and systematically implemented.
Article 7
Any act unnecessary involving the death of an animal, and any decision leading to such an act, constitute a crime against life.
Article 8
1°- Any act compromising the survival of a wild species and any decision leading to such an act are tantamount to genocide, that is to say, a crime against the species.
2°- The massacre of wild animals, and the pollution and destruction of biotopes are acts of genocide.
Article 9
1°- The specific legal status of animals and their rights must be recognised by law.
2°- The protection and safety of animals must be represented at the level of Governmental organizations.
Article 10
Educational and schooling authorities must ensure that citizens learn from childhood to observe, understand and respect animals.

The Universal Declaration of Animal Rights was solemnly proclaimed in Paris on 15 October 1978 at the UNESCO headquarters.
The text, revised by the International League of Animal Rights in 1989, was submitted to the UNESCO Director General in 1990 and made public that same year.
